The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has commended the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for its efforts to improve the administration of Hajj in Nigeria, endorsing recommendations contained in the Commission’s 2026 report for further repositioning of the pilgrimage industry.
The Council also commended the Abuja National Mosque Management Board for initiatives aimed at advancing its mandate.
These resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the NSCIA General Assembly held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque.
The assembly, presided over by the President-General of the Council and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, was held under the theme, “Nigerian Muslims and the Imperative of Nation-building.”
The meeting was attended by Emirs, Obas, Chief Imams, Islamic scholars, leaders of major Islamic organisations, principal officers of the Council and delegates from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
While considering the 2026 Hajj report, the NSCIA adopted NAHCON’s recommendations and endorsed measures aimed at repositioning the Hajj industry for greater efficiency and excellence.
The Council’s commendation comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the organisation and administration of Hajj operations in Nigeria, improve services to pilgrims and enhance coordination among stakeholders in the sector.
The NSCIA also used the occasion to address a number of national, security, religious and socio-economic issues affecting Muslims and Nigerians generally.
