Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali  assumes office as new NAHCON Secretary

The newly appointed Secretary of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Ali, officially assumed duty on Monday, 3rd March, 2025.

He was warmly welcomed to Hajj House, NAHCON headquarters in Abuja, by the Chairman/CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, alongside Commissioners, Board Member representing the North West, Alhaji Abba Jatau, and other members of Commission’s
Management and Staff.

The appointment of Dr Ali was approved by the 5th Board of NAHCON during its meeting held on 26th February 2025 in accordance with the provisions of Section 8 of the NAHCON Establishment Act (2006).

The position of NAHCON Secretary became vacant following the voluntary resignation of Dr Abdullahi Rabi’u Kontagora after which Alhaji Alidu Shutti took over in Acting capacity.

Born in Yerwa, the Borno State capital, Maiduguri, Dr Ali will serve as Secretary of the Commission for a period of four years renewable after the first tenure.

The new NAHCON Secretary  holds a Doctorate and Master’s degree both in Islamic Studies, a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Administration, a Diploma in Computer Application and Internet, and Executive Life Manager Certificate among others.

He attended University of Maiduguri, Bayero University Kano and  the University College for Islamic Call, Tripoli, Libya where he excelled in his field of studies. Other institutions he attended include Administrative Staff College Lagos, Yaysib Computer Institute and Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri to mention a few.

He had, before coming onboard as NAHCON Secretary, served
as Director, Centre for Kanuri Ajami and Qur`ani Studies, Borno State University; Chairman Caretaker Management Committee of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, Borno State; Deputy Provost, Muhammad Goni College of Legal and Islamic Studies, Maiduguri, Borno State, among others.

Dr Ali emerged successful for the post of NAHCON Secretary
after meeting the requirements advertised by the Commission on its website and other media channels.

DETAILS

• The successful individual will statutorily, be responsible for keeping the records, conduct correspondences and serve as Secretary at all meetings of the Commission.

• These will be in addition to ensuring effective reporting of the Commission’s activities, maintenance of the register of licensed Hajj operators, facilitation of publication of the Commission’s regulations and coordination of the Commission’s standard of performance.

REQUIREMENTS

Applications are welcome from individuals who meet the following criteria:

• Bachelor’s Degree, its equivalent or higher in Public Administration, Human Resources Management or any other related fields

• A Muslim of sound mind

• Be a knowledgeable person in Islamic studies

• Proficiency in Arabic and English as working languages

• Minimum of 20 years work experience with at least 10 years of these in top management

• Membership of relevant professional body(ies) will be an added advantage

• Experience in large scale logistics management

• Excellent understanding of modern office technology, including relevant computer software

• Not less than 50 years of age
