Intending Nigerian pilgrims have been urged to pay for the 2027 Hajj as early as possible to ensure a smooth and successful pilgrimage.
Shafii Sani Mohammed, an official
of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), made the call in an article on Friday.
Mohammed noted that early payment is one of the most important decisions an intending pilgrim can make. While many wait until deadlines approach, settling the fare early benefits the pilgrim, NAHCON and the wider Hajj industry, he urged.
Saudi Arabia has introduced an earlier and more structured Hajj calendar in recent years. Participating countries must now complete accommodation bookings, transportation contracts, catering arrangements, visa processing and other operational requirements several months before the pilgrimage. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has already released the implementation timetable for the 1448AH (2027) Hajj, with preparations starting shortly after the previous season and strict deadlines for contracting services. Missing these deadlines could lead to the loss of preferred services or affect a country’s overall arrangements, Mohammed, argued.
For pilgrims, early payment brings peace of mind and enough time to complete documentation such as passport processing, medical screening, vaccinations and orientation programmes. It removes the stress of last-minute fundraising and allows proper spiritual, mental and physical preparation for the journey.
Operationally, early payments help NAHCON and State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, Agencies and Commissions plan more effectively. Confirmed numbers in advance enable better negotiation for accommodation close to the Holy Mosques, quality feeding, reliable transport and efficient flight schedules. Early financial commitments also strengthen Nigeria’s position with Saudi service providers, delivering better value and services.
Early payment further supports the overall success of Nigeria’s Hajj operations by reducing administrative bottlenecks, lowering the risk of missing Saudi deadlines and providing time to resolve any documentation or health issues before departure. The result is a more organised, comfortable and spiritually fulfilling experience.
Pilgrims can pay through approved channels: directly via their State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, Agencies or Commissions; by registering with licensed Private Tour Operators; or by joining the NAHCON Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS). The scheme, operated through partner non-interest banks, allows gradual saving towards the cost of Hajj without the pressure of raising the full amount at once.
“Indeed, when it comes to Hajj, early preparation begins with early payment,” Mohammed stated.
