The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has commenced engagements with stakeholders in Sokoto State as part of efforts to ensure smooth preparation and compliance with the new policies and deadlines introduced by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah for the 2027 Hajj operation.
A delegation from the Commission paid an enlightenment and sensitisation visit to the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The visit, according to the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, was aimed at creating greater awareness among relevant stakeholders about the new requirements governing the 2027 pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The engagement is also expected to strengthen coordination between NAHCON, the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency and other stakeholders ahead of the commencement of arrangements for the 2027 Hajj.
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has introduced new policies, procedures and timelines for the organisation of the annual pilgrimage, requiring participating countries, including Nigeria, to complete key preparations within stipulated deadlines.
Against this backdrop, NAHCON has intensified its sensitisation efforts to ensure that state pilgrims’ welfare boards and agencies, as well as prospective pilgrims, are adequately informed and prepared to meet the requirements.
During the meeting, the NAHCON delegation briefed the Sokoto State Government on the new policies and the importance of adhering strictly to the deadlines set by the Saudi authorities.
The Commission’s engagement with state authorities is expected to facilitate early planning and minimise challenges that could affect the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims during the 2027 Hajj.
Sokoto State is one of Nigeria’s huge pilgrimage-producing states, making effective coordination between the state government and NAHCON particularly important in the preparations for the annual religious exercise.
The sensitisation visit also underscores NAHCON’s emphasis on early preparation, stakeholder engagement and compliance with regulations as essential components of a successful Hajj operation.
The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, in a statement signed by its Head of Information and Communications, Faruku Umar, said the visit was part of efforts to ensure greater awareness and effective compliance with the new guidelines and timelines ahead of the 2027 Hajj exercise.
The engagement forms part of broader preparations by Nigerian authorities to ensure that prospective pilgrims receive adequate information and that all administrative and operational requirements are fulfilled within the deadlines prescribed by the Saudi authorities.
